The Faith Banquet - The Believer's Life in Christ 6

What is Righteousness?

Righteousness is the ability to stand in the presence of God without the sense of sin, guilt and inferiority. If God is to have perfect fellowship with man, He must make man as righteous as Himself. This is what Romans 3: 26 says that God Himself demonstrated and displayed His righteousness by showing Himself righteous and becoming the righteousness of the one who has faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, for all that believe in Christ, God himself has become their righteousness. They are made righteous has God Himself is righteous.

2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV
(21) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Redemption is based on a two-fold law: Mans identification with Adam and mans identification with Christ. it is through the identification of humanity with one man, Adam, that all were made sinners. All came under condemnation. In the same vein, it is necessary that through one Man all be made righteous, as the human race was identified with Christ when He paid the penalty of that transgression. Through our identification with Christ in His redemptive work, we were made the righteousness of God in Him. We become the righteousness of God in Him. We are the righteousness of God in Christ. we are righteous as God Himself is righteous. There is no difference between Gods righteousness and the righteousness He has imputed in us. It is the same God kind of righteousness.

Now, we can stand in the presence of the Father God without any sense of sin, guilt or inferiority. We can stand in fellowship with Him and partake of His nature and glory and love. We have passed from death to life. Now, we are born again children of Father God.

Romans 1:16-17 KJV
(16) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
(17) For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Receiving Gods nature is in reality receiving His righteousness. It was Christ having our spiritual death laid upon Him that made Him sin, as unrighteous as we were. Now our receiving Gods nature causes us to become His righteousness.
Romans 5:19 KJV
(19) For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

The necessity for redemption is to make man as righteous as he was in the Garden of Eden before his fall. The righteousness gives him boldness to stand before the Father God, hence producing sweet and perfect fellowship between God and His children. Redemption in Christ brought us into right standing with our Father God. Thank You Jesus Christ.
