Fruits of Your Love for God (3) |
|
1John 3:17-18 (NIV), Hebrews 13:16 (NIV),If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. *And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Not one of you will lose your life; only the ship will be lost.
Yesterday, we reflected on how our love for God propels us to love others even more. Today, we will focus on how our love for God compels us to give and meet the needs of others. God so loved us that He gave unto us. If you really love others, you will give unto others. Give sacrificially. Do not just say that you love people. Show it by giving unto them.
Just as faith without works is dead, love without fruits is also dead.
James 2:14-16 (NIV) says, “what good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?” Do not simply pray for someone who has a need when you have the means to meet that need. Show that person love and give towards his or her need.
In Galatians 6:10 (NIV), the Bible says, “therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Give cheerfully and with humility. Do it unto God and God will reward you openly for it. Remember, do not give to be seen by men or you will lose your reward, Matt.6:1-4. What the King James Version describes as giving of alms in Matthew 6:1, the New International Version describes as acts of righteousness. Giving out of love is one way we mirror the image of God. Like our last text above says, God is pleased with such sacrifices.
FAITH DECLARATION: I am a lover and a giver, just like God. I demonstrate my love for God by loving His people and giving unto them.
