Growing in Wisdom

   WEDNESDAY
        AUG. 10

Luke 2:52, Proverbs 4:5-8
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. *Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

Author PhotoJust as Jesus needed to increase in wisdom in order to be all that God called Him to be, you also need to continually grow and increase in wisdom. The study of Solomon's life reveals three things that helped Solomon grow in wisdom: his humility, his reverence for God and his value and passion for knowledge and learning. In 1Kings 3:7 Solomon said, and now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. Those statements reflect humility and reverence for God.

In the book of Proverbs, Solomon also repeatedly referenced his value for wisdom above riches, taking correction, learning and listening to the instruction of elders and parents. These things will also cause you to grow in wisdom. Solomon did not desire wisdom in order to be proud and popular. He desired wisdom so that he could rule and lead God's people well, 1Kings 3:9. He wanted wisdom for positive influence and impact in the lives of others. He wanted to be a solution and blessing to others.

God was so pleased with Solomon's desire for wisdom that God abundantly gave him with additional blessings that he never even asked for, including riches, honour and the reputation of an outstanding king, 1Kings 3:11-14. God promised to give him long life if he would walk in His ways. God also wants to give you wisdom in spiritual things, Eph.1:17.

PRAYER FOCUS: Tell God you desire to grow in wisdom and receive His grace to continue to grow in wisdom.
