Worshiping God Appropriately
- HEBREWS 9:1-10
Key Verse:
"The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing" (Hebrews 9:8).
Many people grumble today that there are too many things they are not allowed to do in the house of God. They would rather be given the liberty to indulge in gratifying the flesh. They argue that the rules should be relaxed to allow them more freedom in the house of God. But even in the Old Testament, God did not indulge the Israelites. He imposed a set of rules and regulations on how they should approach Him, and conduct themselves in the house of worship. The other priests and the common people had access to God only through the high priest. By this, the Holy Ghost hinted that there was yet to come, a more perfect way to worship God. The way to come is better as it would entail the sacrifice of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. Today, we are not bound by those rules of ceremonial cleansing nor limited on our diets, as these do not have the power to keep anyone clean permanently. It is only the blood of Jesus, shed on the Cross at Calvary that can wash away our sins. It is Jesus Christ, who is now our High Priest, that can give us the grace to go and sin no more. To be a true worshipper, admit all your sins, ask Him to forgive and cleanse you, and serve Him all the days of your life afterwards.
Thought for the day: True worship of God is through Christ.
