GOD’S FAMILY

-MATTHEW 1:1-17

KEY VERSE:

"The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham" (Matthew 1:1).

Someone once posited that those who forget the past are not likely to locate their way to the future. In some way, the past might be important. Thus, God inspired Matthew to trace the genealogy of Jesus Christ who was indeed born of a woman. Through the ancestry of Joseph, Matthew proves that Jesus is the legal heir to the throne of David. He is the one who has fulfilled all the Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament. This record should convince potential doubters of the root of the Saviour Who followed the natural process of birth by the Almighty’s plan to redeem all human beings from sin. To become a member of God’s family though you were born into this world, you must be "born again" of the Spirit and the word. You must believe and appropriate the sacrifice of Christ into your life and become a new born babe, a new creature in Christ. Only then can you become a member of the spiritual family of God, partaker of the heavenly inheritance with privileges which were not originally meant to be enjoyed by Gentiles. By virtue of being a member of God’s family, a peculiar people who are to show forth the praise of God, you become separate from sinners and from all occultic practices and people. For those who have not at anytime enlisted to be members of the family of Christ through faith, there is still the opportunity to do so now before it is too late. Jesus said those who hear Him are His true fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters. Be a member of the family of God therefore. It may not matter of what ancestry one came out from; but it matters a lot to be a member of the family of God, nay citizens of His Kingdom. "Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters" (2 Corinthians 6:17,18).
Thought for the day: An ancestry traceable to Christ is the pathway to everlasting life.
