WHAT SOUND DO YOU HEAR?
-1 KINGS 18:41-46
KEY VERSE:
"And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain" (1 Kings 18:41).
What you hear usually defines the action you take, influences your attitude in all situations, and determines your fate eventually. If you are surrounded by pessimistic people or those who distrust God’s promises, you are most likely going to resort to self-help which would inevitably spell disaster. After three years of drought and famine in Israel, suddenly, Elijah the prophet was instructed by the Lord to "go, show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth". And with that, he launched into a huge contest with the false prophets and idol worshippers in Israel. King Ahab, was to witness this as proof of the supremacy and sovereignty of the God of Israel. God spectacularly answered the prayer of Elijah, confounded the idol worshippers and mightily convinced the backslidden, lukewarm and double-minded people of Israel. Revival had begun in the nation; yet, there was no rain! He assured the king of the end of their suffering as there was "a sound of abundance of rain". He then cast himself down and began to pray. For a while, nothing seemed to be happening, until his servant saw "a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand". Soon, the heaven became "black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain." In times of crises, when there is so much to cause worry and anxiety, you must never yield yourself to hearing the sounds of fear. Rather, you should listen to the voice from heaven, inviting you to draw near to God. At such times, you should desperately turn to God in prayers. You must stand on the irrevocable promises of God. You must believe in His mighty power to change your situations for the best. Then you shall hear the sound of the abundance of the rain of God’s blessings.
Thought for the day: Open ears are heaven’s door to the soul.
