Load Up Devotional - Citizens of Heaven

March 23

“[The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.” Colossians 1:13, AMP

Citizens of Heaven

Where do you live? The first place that may come to mind is the spot on earth where you wake up each morning. I want you to think deeper than that. I want you to see that you are in this world, but not of it. You are a citizen of heaven. Even here and now, you are living in that kingdom. That statement startles many Christians. They’ve been taught all their lives that they won’t reach God’s kingdom until they die and go to heaven. However, today’s verse says we’ve already made it into God’s kingdom. Because God lives in us, His kingdom is with us right now. Jesus said it this way: “For behold, the kingdom of God is within you [in your hearts] and among you [surrounding you]” (Luke 17:21, AMP). Certainly we’ll go to heaven one day, but since we’re already citizens of the kingdom now, we can enjoy many of the benefits of heaven right here on earth. We can live our lives in love, peace, joy, well-being, health and victory. “If Christians can enjoy all that,” you may ask, “why don’t they?” It’s because often, they have been so absorbed in this world—the world that they see and touch—they haven’t given much thought to God’s kingdom. We can change that! We can obey Colossians 3:1-2: “Aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ [the Anointed One] is, seated at the right hand of God. And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher thing) not on the things that are on the earth” AMP. By studying what the Bible has to say about the kingdom of God, it will become more real to us daily. The Bible says so much about the kingdom of God. I challenge you to study it. Get a concordance and look up all the references to the kingdom of God or the kingdom of heaven. Let the reality of that kingdom get down in your heart so that it becomes part of your thinking…and part of your life!

God has rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me into the kingdom of the Son He loves. Colossians 1:13
