Meditate in the Word.

Joshua 1:8 MSG
And don't for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you'll get where you're going; then you'll succeed.

The next step required to engaging the word of God is meditation. Meditation is pondering, thinking and ruminating and deliberating and reflecting on the word of God. It is turning over in your mind the Word until it mixes with faith in your heart.
Meditation in the Word releases the life of God into your spirit and with life comes the light. Meditation helps you to know what to do.
Jn 5:39 — Jn 5:40 NKJV
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
The word of God carries the life of God. Because The Word is God. Meditating and thinking in the Word is meditating and thinking in God. This is setting your mind on God, setting your affection on things above.
The character of your life is determined by the quality of your mind. Spiritual mindedness produces peace and life. Meditating and thinking in the word create for your a prosperous life and good success.
Psa 119:97,99 KJV

for thy testimonies are my meditation.

There is a relationship between your heart and your meditation. Meditation is thinking on something. How much time you put into meditating in the Word of God shows how much you love the God's Word. Word meditation produces a rejoicing in the heart. Meditation in the Word connects you to God's love, it creates a divine presence within you and thus make the Word so real to your inner man and your mind.
Meditation opens you up to divine insights. John 8:2-11.
Psa 1:1 — 3
1 Blessed is the man
that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
