Wholly Follow The Lord

-DEUTERONOMY 1:34-46

Key Verse:

"Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD"(Deuteronomy 1:36).

Something will always separate the purposefully minded from the crowd of mere followers. When the going is good, it is easy to find majority of people express their faith in the Lord, but when challenges arise, the true nature of such faith begins to emerge. Good enough, God cannot be deceived by the show of religion and zeal. He knows those who truly love and follow Him and it is for these people that He reserved the blessings of eternal abode with Him. In our text, Moses rehearsed to the children of Israel their journey from Egypt so far. He explained to them why, after many years of leaving the land of captivity, they were still wandering in the wilderness. They had not been able to make the expected progress in their journey to the Promised Land. In fact, God had ruled out their gaining entrance to the land just because of their state of heart. They had not exhibited real faith in Him but have allowed unbelief to make them doubt and disobey Him. For this reason, they were all to perish in the wilderness with the exception of their little ones, and Caleb and Joshua because they had total faith and confidence in Him. Their faith was not tied to that of the multitude, neither was it influenced by them. They knew why they believed and were determined to stick by it no matter what. We need to remind ourselves that following the Lord is a personal affair. We cannot and must not allow the attitude of the majority to determine and influence our faith. If your faith is linked or attached to someone else faith, then you may not be able to go far with the Lord. This is because, if the person stumbles in faith, you are likely to fall with him. The secret of steady spiritual progress is having a strong personal conviction and faith that is abiding in the Lord. With this kind of faith, you will keep standing and moving where others fall.
Thought for the day: Partial faith is as bad as having no faith at all.
