The Faith Banquet - The Profitability Of The Word

The Profitability of the Word.

Deacon Adekunle Adenuga

2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
(17) That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

Growing up is a process that involves abiding and remaining in the Scripture, given by inspiration of God. This divine inspiration makes the Scripture (the Word of God) alive, full of power and sharper than any two-edged sword. Hebrews 4: 12-13.

Spiritual maturity therefore, is the given of ourselves to the inspiration of the Scripture. When you give yourself entirely to the Word, your progress and maturity becomes evidently to all. 1 Timothy 4: 12-16.

The ministry of the Word of God produces four fold dimensional profits:

1. For Doctrine (or Teaching).

Acts 2:41-42, 47 KJV "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls."

(42) And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
(47) Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Exposure to the teaching of the Word motivates and sustains spiritual growth. It is feeding on the Word. You feed your spirit with the Word. Jeremiah 15: 16. Through the sound doctrine of the Word, you get nourished. 1 Timothy 4: 6, 13, 16. Through the sound doctrine of the Word, you get encouraged and exhorted. Titus 1: 9; 2: 1, 10-12; Acts 5: 42.

Sound doctrine according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which is committed to my trust. 1 Timothy 1: 11. Knowing the doctrine of the Word involves conscious effort and determination. It involves a quality decision. Growing up is a choice. Therefore, to grow to involve you make a choice to know the will of God and His doctrine.
John 7:17 KJV
If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

It is every believers responsibility to make effort to know. It is your responsibility to search the Scripture and find out the necessary food [nutrients] needed for your growth. 1 Peter 2: 2. Wisdom comes through the ministry of sound doctrine, by exposing oneself to the good and sound teaching of the Word of God. Proverbs 4: 1-13.
Spiritual maturity comes with warning and teaching in all wisdom of God. Colossians 1: 28; 3: 16.

2. For Reproof.

Proverbs 1:20-23 KJV Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
(21) She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
(22) How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
(23) Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Reproof is meant to make you think and act right. Reproof is rebuking an error or pointing out an error. Reproof is for the wise. Reproof gives the wise the ability to consider their ways and actions before such is carried out. Proverbs 6: 23.

Reproofs from the Word lead you in the way of life. It is very profitable because it keeps you from calamity and destruction.
Proverbs 1:26-27 KJV I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;  (27) When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

When you despise the reproof of the Word, you shall eat the fruit of your own way  evil fruits of death and destruction. Proverbs 13: 13.

3. For Correction.

Proverbs 3:11-12 KJV My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
(12) For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
Correction is very important to spiritual growth and maturity. Correction is training. There is no training without correction. The Word of God is profitable for correction.
Proverbs 22: 15, Correction makes you wiser. The more correction you received, the more foolishness is driven away far from you, thereby becoming wiser. Proverbs 9: 8-9, 12.

Proverbs 23:13-14 KJV Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
(14) Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

It would be unjust and unfaithful for our heavenly Father to withhold correction from us, when we missed the mark. But our heavenly Father is just and faithful; hence when we disobey His Word, He promptly corrects us by His Word to deliver our soul from destruction. Correction is a way of getting us to walk and live according to the foundational principles of the family  the Word of God. Correction is part of our inheritance in God by Christ Jesus. Hebrews 12: 5-11.

4. For Instruction in Righteousness.

Proverbs 1:8-9 KJV "My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: "

(9) For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

Growing up comes when you hear the instruction of your Father. Our heavenly Father desires our growth. We are His sons. We grow up through hearing and cleaving to His instruction. The love for divine instruction is a divine requirement for divine / spiritual growth. We have been created according to God in righteousness and true holiness. Therefore, growing up in Christ is by the creative power of God  the glorious gospel of the blessed God. Proverbs 5: 12; 10: 17; 4: 1.

The more you increase in divine knowledge, the more you grow up to the image of the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. It is your love for Gods instruction that delivers the knowledge of God unto you for victory and prosperity. Proverbs 12: 1; 15: 5, 32-33.
