2Samuel 11:2 (GNB)
…The following spring, at the time of the year when kings usually go to war, David sent out Joab with his officers and the Israelite army; they defeated the Ammonites and besieged the city of Rabbah. But David himself stayed in Jerusalem. One day, late in the afternoon, David got up from his nap and went to the palace roof. As he walked around up there, he saw a woman taking a bath in her house. She was very beautiful.

Author PhotoDavid made one of the greatest mistakes of his life when he chose to sleep at home rather than join his army which was active on the battle field. We are not told David's reasoning for the decision but the Bible reveals the multiple implications that resulted from his negligence. His poor decision to let down his guard for a moment led him to lust after Bathsheba, to commit adultery with her, to cover up his evil act with deception and eventually, to murder her husband.

Place your hand on the plough and do not look back. In Luke 9:62 Jesus said, no man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Ephesians 5:15-17 in the Good News Bible says, so be careful how you live. Don't live like ignorant people, but like wise people. Make good use of every opportunity you have, because these are evil days. Don't be fools, then, but try to find out what the Lord wants you to do.

Choose not to give any chance to the devil. Stay alert spiritually and stay active in God's will and purpose for your life. Make good use of the time you have right now and stop loafing around. Do not be idle. Do not become proud and conceited. Resist the urge to contend that you have “arrived.” Maintain your passion and commitment as you begin to make progress and succeed. Forget what is behind and press forward. Stay focused and fervent in God's purpose and assignment for your life.

PRAYER FOCUS: Receive God's grace right now to remain alert spiritually and active in His will and purpose for your life.
